Why This Matters to Distributors: Uline is adding 1.25 million square feet of distribution capacity in New England as it moves inventory closer to customers and expands its same-day shipping network. The project shows the scale of investment large distributors are making in regional inventory and fulfillment capacity to compete on product availability and delivery speed.
Uline is preparing to open a 1.25 million-square-foot distribution center in Plainfield, Connecticut, as the shipping, industrial and packaging supplies distributor expands its fulfillment network in the Northeast.
Uline lists November as the target opening for the facility at 113 Plainfield Pike Road. The company’s corporate website more broadly lists the opening for fall 2026. Uline refers to the Plainfield operation as its Boston branch.
The company said the fully stocked distribution center will serve customers in Connecticut, Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Rhode Island. Uline said the facility will support same-day shipping and what the company describes as “virtually no backorders.”
The Plainfield facility will become Uline’s 15th location, according to the company’s careers site. Uline said it has more than 9,000 employees across its existing 14 locations.
AdvanceCT, Connecticut’s nonprofit business recruitment organization, has called the project one of the largest logistics investments in recent state history. The organization said the facility is expected to create about 250 jobs in its initial phase and generate more than $1.5 million annually in local tax revenue.
Uline has been staffing and stocking the facility ahead of the opening. According to a timeline published on the company’s careers site, recruiting began in March, the night shift started in June, warehouse stocking began in July, and the day shift started in August.
Hiring is continuing as the opening approaches. Uline is recruiting for warehouse, facilities, human resources, information technology and other positions in Plainfield, according to the company’s careers site.
The company is also offering $5,000 hiring bonuses for some warehouse positions. Uline lists pay of $26 to $34 an hour for day-shift warehouse associates and $28 to $34 an hour for night-shift associates.
The new distribution center gives Uline a major inventory and fulfillment operation inside the New England market, allowing the distributor to position more products closer to customers across the region.
Uline’s corporate locations page lists distribution operations serving major U.S. markets including Atlanta, Chicago, Columbus, Dallas, Los Angeles, Miami, Minneapolis, New York and Philadelphia, Reno and Seattle, along with locations in Canada and Mexico. The company lists Plainfield as its Boston operation and its newest addition to the network.
Uline says its distribution model emphasizes maintaining inventory and shipping orders the same day. At 1.25 million square feet, the Plainfield facility will add substantial regional capacity as the distributor extends that model deeper into the Northeast.
For distributors, the size of the investment is significant. Positioning more inventory in New England can reduce the distance orders travel to customers while giving Uline additional capacity to support rapid fulfillment across the region.
Uline has not announced a specific opening day. Its careers site identifies November as the target opening, while its corporate website says the Plainfield branch is scheduled to open in fall 2026.
